About Brazil Nuts - Raw and Organic

A Rare Gift from the Rainforest 🌍

Brazil nuts come from the Bertholletia excelsa tree, which grows exclusively in the dense Amazon rainforest. These trees rely on a complex natural ecosystem to thrive, and all attempts to cultivate them outside the Amazon have failed—making Brazil nuts a unique and precious gift from nature.

The tree of the Brazil nut belongs to the family Lecythidaceae, is approximately 50 meters high and can obtain a diameter of 6 meters. It exclusively flourishes in the dense rain forests of South America, to be precise, in the Brazilian Amazonian lowlands till the foothills of the Andes (Bolivia, Colombia and Peru). In these protected forests, the wild growing trees of Brazil nuts can live for more than 300 years.

Every attempt to cultivate outside the Amazonian rain forest has failed. Moreover, it is not known for how long the trees of Brazil nut have been already there. However it is known that in year 1800, Alexander von Humboldt came to know about this tree during his journey to what is called Venezuela today and also gave it the scientific name ‘Bertholletia excelsa’.

Also known as Amazon almonds, Marahon chestnuts, or Brazilian chestnuts, these nuts have been a vital part of indigenous diets for centuries.
