Organic Brazil kernels, from Bolivia. The Brazil nuts are seeds of the South American Brazil nut tree.

The tree of the Brazil nut belongs to the family Lecythidaceae, is approximately 50 meters high and can obtain a diameter of 6 meters. It exclusively flourishes in the dense rain forests of South America, to be precise, in the Brazilian Amazonian lowlands till the foothills of the Andes (Bolivia, Colombia and Peru). In these protected forests, the wild growing trees of Brazil nuts can live for more than 300 years.

Every attempt to cultivate outside the Amazonian rain forest has failed. Moreover, it is not known for how long the trees of Brazil nut have been already there. However it is known that in year 1800, Alexander von Humboldt came to know about this tree during his journey to what is called Venezuela today and also gave it the scientific name ‘Bertholletia excelsa’.

The Brazil nuts are nut fruits, which are commercially known as dryfruit or nuts. The Brazil nuts are also known as Amazon almond, Marahon chestnut, Amazonian chestnut or Brazilian chestnut as well as Brazilian nut. The Brazil nuts are spread almost in the entire region of Amazon from which the name has been derived. The Nama Brazil nut has also been derived from the Brazilian state of Pará, which is adjacent to the Amazon region.
