The sugar cane is fresh-pressed, sun-dried, and undergoes a first crystallization process within 24 hours of harvest. Not Your Average Sugar
While both refined white sugar and Cane Juice Crystals come from sugar cane, the difference lies in the minimal processing. Cane Juice Crystals undergo far less refining, allowing them to retain essential vitamins and minerals, offering a natural and less processed sugar alternative.

Cane juice is not a commonly allergenic food and is not known to contain measurable amounts of oxalates or purines. The crystals are a nice fine grain, so they dissolve easily into oils and liquids.

About Raw Living

These cane juice crystals are sourced from Ecuador and have always been organic. However, due to the current political situation in Ecuador and the recent changes in EU regulations, our supplier is unable to obtain the necessary organic certification at this time. The new regulations have introduced stricter certification requirements, increased costs, and more complex compliance processes, which have significantly affected many small and medium-sized producers in Ecuador.

The difficulty in obtaining organic certification for cane juice crystals from Ecuador is primarily due to changes in the EU Organic Regulation (2018/848), which introduced stricter requirements for organic production, certification, and labeling. These new regulations came into effect in 2024, with full compliance required by January 2025 for all countries exporting to the EU.

The impact has been significant for Ecuador, especially because its national organic certification system is not fully recognized by the EU. This means that many producers, particularly small and medium-sized farms, now face higher certification costs, complex compliance requirements, and stricter auditing processes. The added financial and administrative burdens have made it challenging for suppliers to maintain their organic certification status, especially amid the country’s broader political and economic instability.

Additionally, many smallholder farms that were previously certified as part of group certifications under Ecuador’s national standards now don’t meet the new EU definitions for such groups. This forces them to apply for individual certifications, which is often financially unfeasible without substantial support.

Our supplier is the only producer in the world of these specific sun-dried cane juice crystals—there is no equivalent product produced anywhere else globally.
